How to Use Your Body to Improve Your Mind to Complete Projects & Follow Through

Do you LOVE to start projects, but have a hard time following through & completing them?

You can use your body to improve your mind to follow through and complete projects by moving from your fight and flight mode to a more relaxed state where you can take the time to think clearly, contemplate and follow through on your goals.

The principle we’re working with is that when you’re in your fight and flight response,  your entire back body shrinks giving you the greater advantage to react and run.

By lengthening our entire back body through a variety of forward folds, you are teaching your body to move into a more relaxed state and increasing your blood supply to your frontal lobes.  This will allow you to think more clearly, follow through and complete projects.

Here are a few basic and easy moves you can do right now.

1. While seated, massage your calf to your ankle, focusing on lengthening the back of your legs.

2. Forward fold on the wall. All the benefits of downward dog where you open up your entire back body.  Simply stand at the wall with your hands at your armpit level and walk back to where your hips are over your ankles.  Enjoy a few deep breaths as you reach your hips back into the middle of the room.

3. Basic forward fold, once you roll down, relax and soften your knees to enjoy a greater extension.

4. Downward dog -as you open your back body you can also enjoy the blood flowing to your frontal lobes.

5. Warrior I with clasping your hands behind your back and mindfully folding forward.

Mastering Your Monkey Mind

It was an honor and privilege to be a presenter at the Toastmasters District 57 Conference. Here’s a quick review of  the tips from my speech.

Mastering Your Monkey Mind

1. Your Thoughts Affect Your Body -This is known as the Mind-Body  Connection.  Be sure to watch the video to enjoy a powerful demonstration where you can experience how your thoughts affect your body.

Empowering Positive Suggestions:

  • “Everyday in every way I’m getting better & better” by Emil Koa        -this is my favorite positive suggestion
  • Every presentation I give gets better & better & more enjoyable too
  • I have the perfect amount of time to plan, prepare and produce the speech I desire
  • My words flow out perfectly with a powerful concise message
  • I easily connect with my audience and inspire them
  • I can change the mood by changing my inflection, my tone, or pace
  • I can adapt to any audience with grace and ease
  • I feel calm, comfortable, confident with an alert mind when I present
  • I LOVE table topics.  I can think fast, witty and intelligently on the spot
  • I have the abilities, resources and skills to create my speech
  • I tap into my left logical mind and my right creative mind to make a powerful speech

2. You can also utilize your body to empower your thoughts.

To bring more self confidence into your public speaking, or any situation, simply become aware of how your body and mind is when you are naturally confident.

Think of 3 areas of your life where you’re naturally confident.  Perhaps it’s a hobby that you absolutely love & enjoy.  Or, maybe, you’re the #1 go to person for certain tasks at work.

The point is that there’s many areas of your life where you’re naturally confident, where you feel good about yourself and your abilities.  As you become aware of these moments in your life, you become aware of how your body is.

Are you standing tall, with your shoulders rolled back and a smile on your face?

What’s the monkey mind telling you?  That you can easily do this in your sleep that you know it so well?

Once you become aware of your thoughts, feels and body when you’re confident, you can easily copy these sensations and reconnect with them when you need them the most, such as public speaking.

Self Hypnosis Script for Public Speaking

In a few moments I will begin to squeeze various muscles, then take a deep breath and release any stress or tension in my mind and body.  Once my body is physically relaxed, my mind will easily follow.

I begin with the muscles in my face.  First I make a few funny faces, moving my jaw, wiggling my tongue and then tighten all the muscles in my face.  I take a deep breathe and as I breathe out I release any tension or stress in my body and mind.

Next I focus my attention on my shoulders and neck.  I grasp the muscles in my neck, bringing my shoulders up to my ears and squeeze tightly as I take a deep breath, then I release, let go and feel good.

The deeper I relax, the better I feel.  Each breath, I naturally relax deeper and deeper, feeling better and better.

Now I squeeze the muscles in my chest and upper back.  I take a deep breath and any stress or tension will be release as I exhale and let go.

Next I focus my awareness on my lower back and stomach, holding the muscles tight as I take a deep breath.  As I exhale, I let go of any anxiety, letting go or anything that no longer serves me.

Now squeeze all the muscles in my legs, holding my knees tight and calves.  Squeezes my toes and holding it tight.  I take a deep breathe and as I breathe out I release any tension or stress in my body and mind.

Each breath I feel better and better as my mind begins to drift and dream.  The deeper I relax, the better I feel.  The better I feel, the deeper I relax.

In a moment I will squeeze all the muscles from the top of my head to the tips of my toes releasing anything else that no longer serves me.  I begin with tightening the muscles in my face, my neck, my shoulders, my arms, my back, my chest, my stomach, my legs, and all the way down to my toes.   I take a deep breath and as I exhale I let go of any stress, tension or anxiety, releasing and letting it go far far away from me.

As I relax, feeling so comfortable and good, I bring these wonderful feelings and sensations with me when I speaking in front of an audience.  I have all the abilities, all the skills and resources to plan, prepare, and produce a powerful presentation.
I have all the time I need to plan, prepare and produce a dynamic speech.  Whether I have months, weeks, or only moments, it’s the perfect amount of time for me to create the speech I desire.

I easily connect with the audience.  I’m able to work with the unique dynamics of any audience.  I can adjust the mood by simply adjusting my intonation, the inflection of my voice, or the rate I speak.

I feel comfortable, alert with a sense of peacefulness and ease within when I’m standing in front of an audience.  Whether it’s for work, family & friends or Toastmasters, I can easily adapt and adjust to any crowd.

My words come out smoothly, with a clear, concise message.  I’m able to communicate my message with a powerful impact to help change people’s lives.

Every day in every way I get better and better.

I learn from each presentation.  I acknowledge myself for the good and take in valuable feedback.  I know what feedback is useful that I easily adapt and use.  I also know what feedback is useless and let it go.  I work with what is and improve upon that.

I feel confident, comfortable and good about myself as I deliver my powerful speech.  I easily adapt to any audience.  My words come out clearly, concisely with the impact I desire.

Every speech I deliver, I get better and better and better.

I now take a few moments to bask in this beautiful blissfulness.

Improving Your Posture, Circulation and Energy

Your posture can greatly affect your circulation and your breathing rate which can lead to power energy levels.  With the wear and tear of the day one can easily find oneself slouching in their desks with ones shoulders hunched over.  With the poor posture one adds shallow breathing which limits the oxygen to the mind and leads to slower & foggier thinking.

By simply opening your chest and opening your heart, you will greatly improve your posture allowing yourself to take a deeper fuller breathe.  With the improved posture it will improve your circulation and lead to many benefits such as improved focus, concentration and help you feel great!

Here’s a few fun exercises that you can do throughout the day to open your heart.

Morning: Forward Bend against the Wall

-Place your hand shoulder height against a wall or counter top.

-Step a large step backwards with your hips over your legs at a right angle.

-Begin with your knees loose as you enjoy 10 deep full breathes.

-To go deeper into the pose, simply straighten your legs.

Afternoon: Hands Behind Your Head

-Interlace your fingertips behind your head, press your head against your hands.

-Reach your elbows away from each other as you open your heart up towards the sky.

-Enjoy 10 deep breathes here.

-Repeat with your other hand on top.

Evening: Back Opener with Blanket

1. Energizing Back Opener

-Roll a blanket or towel wide enough for your shoulders.

-Place blanket parallel under your shoulder blades.

-Open your arms up shoulder width

-Relax and breathe during your favorite song

2. Restorative Back Opener

-Place blanket long against your spine.

-Open your arms up shoulder width

-Relax and breathe

A couple minutes in the morning, noon or afternoon can greatly improve your posture and circulation.  With the bigger deeper breathes you’ll enjoy more energy throughout your day.

3 Tips to Get Into the Subconscious Mind

Posted on11. Feb, 2011 by admin2.

1.       The Eyes Are the Window to the Soul – whether you’re looking into your lover’s eyes or staring at yours in the mirror, this is the perfect time to get your special message into the subconscious mind by simply staring into one’s pupils.    Remember being in love?  Remember just staring into one another’s eyes for hours.  Sometimes a word doesn’t even need to be spoken.

2.       The Special Touch – Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) has taught us that you can have  your lover tell you a story that makes them happy and when you see the full excitement of the moment on their face & hear it in their words, go ahead and touch them in a unique place like the middle of their arm or the back of their neck …  Then have them share with you another fabulous moment in their life, once again as their face beams with a smile, you touch them again in the same spot.  This will help amplify the wonderful feeling.  You can have them share with you as many stories you as you desire, each time touching the same spot on their arm while they are in the excitement of the moment.   They will soon begin to associate feeling wonderful with being with you.

3.       Exhaustion followed by Relaxation! Go ahead, go hike a mountain, ride a bike, or take a yoga class, by being physically active it gives your conscious mind time to get tired and eventually tune out.  This is one of the many reasons why I love yoga, one gets physically exhausted and then the mind is ready to relax and is more open to suggestion.  This is the perfect time to tell your lover how much you love them.

“” I’ve had eight sessions with Andrea for stress related issues and the results have been more than I could imagine. I’ve never been one to go for meditation, hypno-therapy or relaxation execises but I am loving it. Andrea makes personalized cd’s to help me at home and I can really see a difference in myself. I’ve learned how to recognize when my body is tense and achieve a state of calmness through the personalized meditation cd’s. I would recommend Andrea to anyone who needs help dealing with issues they can change through mind over body techniques. She’s AWESOME with a capital “A”

“”

Andrea worked with me in 2003 on my self-esteem issues surrounding a relationship gone bad. I had friends to talk to about the breakup but the grieving process was long and difficult. I wasn’t sleeping well and when I woke up, my thoughts were immediately back on the breakup. I was also having a hard time at work because my thoughts k…ept betraying my recovery there too. By luck, I ran into Andrea Spence at a networking group. I never would have even thought to use hypnotherapy but Andrea’s program intrigued me.

Listening to my personal hypnotherapy sessions before going to bed each night totally improved my sleep. I got into a regimen of listening to the CD (iPhone now) as I fell asleep and would be under before the CD ended. When I awoke, I felt refreshed and I couldn’t remember why I even had all that angst! Of course, the thoughts returned later in the day but in shorter intervals and duration. Eventually, they were gone altogether.

As for my business, I had the most successful year of my real estate career. It was unbelievable – I’m really not kidding! It was like someone threw the switch on and I was consistently hitting doubles and triples. But more importantly, I recovered my self-worth which is…wait for it…priceless.

Look, hypnotherapy doesn’t work for everyone. You got to want it to work and you got to get consistent about working it. It’s no different than any other exercise program. But this one exercises and reprograms your brain the way you choose. If you ever find your mind needs a tune-up, I wholeheartedly recommend Andrea.

“You’re not dieting. You’re eating this way the rest of your life. That’s why hypnosis works!  I lost 45 lbs in less than a year and kept it off.  I can now fit in my old size 8 dress and I look better than ever before!”

~3 years later: I’m now a size 6, it’s been a perfect breeze staying healthy with my

7 Ways to Enhance Your Next Speech and Get Your Brain Moving

Posted on14. May, 2010 by admin2.

Increase Your Brain's Brilliance

When you stretch your brain and your thinking, you actually create new pathways and build your brain power. This will increase your brilliance. Learn how to be brilliant with these 7 easy techniques.

First, I want you to remember that just as you learned to read, mastered math facts, and learned how to function as an adult – you can learn new skills, at any age. Your brain is a magnificent machine.

Here are 7 tips and techniques you can use to improve your brain. You can be more creative, solve problems more easily, be organized, feel confident, stay focused, stay committed to follow through, and be more relaxed.

  • Double Doodle –begin by bringing your arms out in the middle of the air and start mirroring each other.  Then take a pen in each hand and begin mirroring while writing on paper.  Once you get the hang of it, start writing your name and drawing pictures.

Benefits: Stimulates both hemispheres of your brain at the same time. Your creative side and your logical analytical side. This is a great exercise to do while you’re preparing your speech. It helps you to have a fun, witty, creative speech that also has a clear message.

  • Cross Crawl – bring your left hand to your nose and your right hand to your ear.  Any movement that crosses your mid-line, left to right and right to left.  You can bring your right elbow to your left knee, etc.

Benefits: This gets your left and right brain communicating by stimulating your corpus colostrum which connects your two brains. Once again this is a great exercise to do while preparing for your speech.

  • Thinking Cap – Rub your ears.

Benefits: Improves focus and concentration by improving hearing and listening abilities and helps to cut out distracting sounds. This also stimulates over 400 acupressure points and improves circulation throughout your body.  This is a great activity to do every day before any event.

  • Calf Stretch – while seated bring your right ankle to your left knee. Focus on stretching and massaging the tendon in the back of your calf.

Benefits: This helps to move ones ideas and thoughts into spoken word.  If one has a hard time getting their message across then this is a great exercise to do.This is great for everyone in leadership, as a great leader, one must be able to complete ones projects.  In Toastmasters we are all working on our Leadership skills.

  • Deep Breathe/ 3 Part Breath -Begin with your hands on your belly and as you breathe in, expand, as you breath out, release.  Then move one hand onto your solar plexus (the space between the bottom of your ribs), breathe in from your belly up to your solar plexus.  Then with one hand on your heart, breathe in from your belly, to your solar plexus and up to your heart.  Exhale from the top, middle, down.

Benefits: Oxygen is needed to live. By breathing in more fully we have the ability to think clearly, focus and concentration. This will also slow down a racing heart so if you find that your heart is racing, pumping and your body is uncomfortable, this will physically slow it down and return it to a normal breath where you will feel more comfortable, calm and relaxed within. Great all day long and especially before a speech.

  • Use your body for Confidence –here we did a great demonstration on how to use your body to appear and then feel more confident by sitting taller, with your shoulders rolled back and your chin forward.

Benefits: By taking on the posture of confidence your thoughts will soon follow.  A way to enhance this is by noticing how your body feels when you are confident and when you are less confident.  Notice and become aware of your thoughts during these times, too.  By identifying your thoughts and feelings when you are confident, then you can bring them to your awareness when you need the confidence the most. Use this before, during and after your presentation.  You want to project confidence throughout the meeting.

  • Your thoughts –The Mind/Body Connection –Your thoughts affect your body.  Imagine eating a lemon where ones mouth begins to water and one truly experiences this principle of learning how powerful ones thoughts are.

Benefits: You will have control over your thoughts.  You can have the choice to worry, stress and think you’re going to do poorly during a presentation or you can utilize the power of your thoughts to improve your confidence to feel good and have fun.
